Beautyberry ‘Issai’

Beautyberry is definitely an underused plant in modern landscapes!

This dwarf variety grows in a loose open manner, with long stems that can arch downward when loaded with berries.

It typically grows 3-4 feet tall with a spread of 4-5 feet, but can be easily kept smaller with pruning in early spring.

Flowers are quite small but appear in clusters which make them more noticeable. The real show is in late August through fall as the berries appear and turn a brilliant magenta-purple, stealing the show from the other plants in the garden.

Fruiting is increased when two of more bushes are planted in close proximity. It grows in full sun and part shade.

As a bonus it is also resistant to drought and deer.

Issai is hardy in zones 5-8.
