Blueberry ‘New Hanover’
Blueberry ‘New Hanover’ was developed by NC State University and is a good producer of large berries and has very high flavor ratings.
New Hanover is self pollinating but will do better with another compatible blueberry to increase productivity. The berries ripen in late spring or early summer.
It does best in full sun and needs acidic soil. Planting with peat moss and/or mulching with pine needles can give it that acidity.
Grows 5-6 feet tall and wide, but pruning it smaller can help make it easier to harvest the fruit.
The fall foliage is a rich red color similar to burning bush.
Hardy in zones 6-9.
